According to the data from the resource, last month Microsoft Edge reached the second place in popularity globally, only behind the long-time leader Google Chrome.
The source notes that the Microsoft Edge browser, which many consider the successor to Internet Explorer, continues to grow in popularity and can no longer be viewed as "a browser for downloading other browsers".
For a long time, Chrome has held a leading position in the browser segment with a significant margin. As of March, Google's web browser accounted for 68.50% of the market. Microsoft Edge, which has taken the second place, is used on 7.59% of devices. Previously second-placed Mozilla Firefox has dropped to third place with a market share of 7.19%, while Internet Explorer remains in fourth position with a share of 5.87%.
One of the factors contributing to the increased popularity of Edge is its availability for mobile devices running Android and iOS. Additionally, Microsoft developers regularly optimize the browser, making it more user-friendly and reliable. All of this has influenced the growth of its user base.
As for operating systems, there was nothing unexpected in this sector over the month. After Microsoft discontinued support for Windows 7, the share of Windows 10 continues to gradually increase. As of March, Windows 10 was installed on 57.34% of devices. It's worth noting that Windows 7 is reluctant to yield its position and continues to hold 26.23% of the market. Rounding out the top three is Windows 8.1, which had a share of 5.69% during the reporting period. In fourth place, with a share of 2.62%, is macOS 10.14.
