The founder of Opera Software, Jon von Tetzchner, is currently working on the Vivaldi browser, which is positioned as a modern replacement for the classic 'Opera'. Recently, the developers released version 2.4, which allows users to move icons throughout the interface and personalize various user profiles. This feature is expected to help when multiple users work with the same browser. However, von Tetzchner revealed more in an interview with CNET.
According to him, everything in the browser can be customized. There are as many as 17 pages with various settings, one of which is solely dedicated to tab configurations. Von Tetzchner is confident that users will appreciate this approach.
However, what is even more interesting is that the developers have not abandoned the idea of releasing a mobile version of the browser. Work on it is currently underway. Vivaldi for Android and a separate email application are expected to be launched before the end of this year.
The expert also promised that the mobile version will be customizable just like the desktop version. According to von Tetzchner, the mobile browser will exceed the configurability of other similar programs, although not right away. The first version will not have all the functionality from the start. He also stated that the email application still needs 'refinement', although it is generally ready. Furthermore, von Tetzchner explained that such an application is necessary for users who, for various reasons, cannot use the web versions of email services.
Meanwhile, according to the head of development, Vivaldi will not block ads by default, as, for example, Brave does. However, users will be able to download the necessary extensions themselves. Finally, von Tetzchner stated that abandoning the use of the Presto browser engine (which was the basis of the classic Opera) is a significant mistake. Nonetheless, he acknowledged that having multiple browsers is better than having just one and praised Firefox for Mozilla’s continued development of it.
