A new version of the open-source eBook cataloger has been released Calibre 7.20.
This version introduces a new engine for converting PDF files to other eBook formats such as EPUB or MOBI. It is now capable of automatically detecting titles and subtitles through document analysis.
The old engine is still available for selection in the PDF input section of the conversion dialog. The Calibre manual includes detailed instructions on converting PDF to eBook-friendly formats.
The 'Read Aloud' feature now offers the option to insert an additional pause at the end of each sentence (but only in conjunction with the Piper TTS neural network added in Calibre 7.18).
Among other updates is an improved Kobo driver with support for the latest firmware for the Tolino Shine 5 reader.
Less significant changes:
- The image cropping tool now supports aspect ratio customization;
- New news sources: NYT Magazine, RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland;
- Fix for books with non-ASCII filenames that were not uploading in the Kindle browser;
- Regression fix for copying books when the author is not in the target database;
- PDF output adds variable width/height.
Calibre can be downloaded on the official website or from FlatHub in flatpak format.
