CCZE — a utility for coloring logs.
The original project ceased development in 2003. In 2013, I compiled the program for personal use, but it turned out that it was quite slow due to an unoptimized algorithm. I fixed the most obvious performance issues, after which I successfully used it for 7 years, but was too lazy to release it.
So, I present to you Release 0.3.0 Phoenix, rising from the digital ashes.
This release does not introduce new features.
The build on modern systems has been fixed.
One long-standing segfault has been corrected and performance improved:
The keyword matching has been rewritten to prevent the program from performing numerous pointless string comparisons.
The contents of the services(5) database are now cached and processed by the same mechanism as the keywords. There is no need to parse /etc/services repeatedly.
Improvements have been made to the regular expression handling code.
The overall performance gain amounted to tens or even hundreds of times.
The program is currently in maintenance mode. This means that I do not plan to actively work on it, I have no roadmap or plans for future releases. But if you have bug reports or ideas for improving the program's features and adapting its capabilities to modern realities, I am ready to develop as time permits.
CCZE is part of an ambitious project to revive various software abandoned by its developers. Currently, this project only has a registered organization account on GitHub and a single repository with CCZE code. New repositories will appear there in the future. I am currently working on some of them.
