A few days ago, it became known that Google is working on bringing Google Assistant to the Chrome browser on Android. This will allow the web browser to interface directly with the voice assistant. The latter will be integrated into the browser's Omnibox. Currently, this feature is already available in Chrome Canary, but no timeline for its release has been mentioned.
To activate Assistant in the browser, you need to go to chrome://flags, find the Omnibox Assistant Voice flag, enable it, and restart the browser.
As a result, Google Assistant in the Omnibox will replace the built-in voice search in Android. Thus, it will handle all voice queries in the browser. The old microphone icon in the Chrome address bar will be replaced with the Google Assistant logo in the coming days.
Google has long been working on replacing the old voice search with its assistant. Last year, the search giant replaced the old voice search with Google Assistant in its proprietary app. The company also introduced its voice assistant in the Pixel launcher last year.
Additionally, its appearance in the desktop version of the browser can be expected. In other words, the 'corporation of goodness' is trying to create a full-scale ecosystem of its products by utilizing voice technologies.
