The release of Google Chrome 83 and the corresponding free version of Chromium, which serves as its foundation, has taken place. The previous release, version 82, was skipped due to developers transitioning to remote work.
New features include:
- The "DNS over HTTPS" (DoH) mode is now is enabled by default, if the user's DNS provider supports it.
- Additional security checks:
- Now you can check if your login and password have been compromised and receive recommendations for remediation.
- The Safe Browsing technology for secure site browsing is now available. A warning will be displayed when visiting suspicious sites if disabled.
- Notifications will also be displayed for malicious extensions.
- Changes in appearance:
- New look of the extensions panel, where additional settings are now available.
- The settings tab has been redesigned. Options are now grouped into four basic sections. The "People" tab has also been renamed to "Me and Google".
- Managing cookies has been simplified. Users can now quickly enable blocking of third-party cookies for all sites or for a specific site. Blocking of all cookies from third-party sites is also available in "Incognito" mode.
- New developer tools have been added: an emulator for perceiving a page by people with vision impairments, and a COEP (Cross-Origin Embedder Policy) debugger. The interface for tracking the duration of executing JavaScript code has also been redesigned.
Some planned changes due to the global situation have been postponed: removal of support for the FTP protocol, TLS 1.0/1.1, etc.
