Starting with the release of Chrome 80, scheduled for February 4, there will be a way to display permission requests in a non-intrusive manner that does not require any actions. Instead of a separate dialog, a prompt will appear in the address bar warning about the blocked permission request, which will then be minimized into an icon with a crossed-out bell. Clicking on this icon allows users to grant or deny the requested permission at their convenience.
In Chrome 80, both desktop and mobile versions will apply the new mode only under certain conditions, but there will be an option in the settings to apply it to all permission requests (chrome://flags/#quiet-notification-prompts). Automatically, the new mode will selectively activate for users who previously tended to block such requests, as well as for websites that have a high percentage of denied requests.
In the future, it is also planned to implement stricter measures to protect against websites using the notification interface to carry out malicious or deceptive actions. Websites are also encouraged to use pop-ups or distracting ad dialogs suggesting subscription to notifications, which are typically displayed before requesting permission. It is recommended to make such a request only after user-initiated actions, for example, when the user clicks on a special subscription checkbox in the menu or on a separate page.
