A major update of the digital audio workstation Reaper 6 has been released, developed by Cockos, which currently consists of a single person. The previous release is notable for the launch of a Linux version, and the new release continues to explore the Linux platform market. The builds are provided in tarballs, accompanied by installation scripts, and are independent of distribution-specific package formats. Installation images have been prepared for amd64, i386, armv7l, and aarch64 platforms. Dependencies required are libc6, libstdc++, libgdk-3, and ALSA.
The most important new features of Reaper 6:
- The ability to embed the GUI of some plugins into the track panel or mixer.
- CSIStorageCapacity MIDI CC handling mechanism — they are now processed not as discrete events but support smoothed lines, Bézier curves, and much more functionality.
- Support for automatic stretching and tuning of audio loops to the project tempo during complex tempo changes.
- A node-based connection editor, allowing for a visual approach to complex audio stream routing.
- A new theme with improved support for high-resolution screens, as well as the flexibility to customize almost every element of the user interface. A special setup wizard has been introduced to simplify customization.
- Numerous optimizations, particularly noticeable when working with large projects (more than 200 tracks).
- And much more.
The price for Reaper 6 is $60 for non-commercial use and small businesses, and $225 for commercial organizations.
