The release of the Tenth ALT Platform (p10) has been announced — a new stable branch of ALT repositories based on the Sisyphus free software repository. The platform is designed for the development, testing, distribution, updating, and support of comprehensive solutions at all levels — from embedded devices to enterprise servers and data centers; created and developed by the ALT Linux Team, supported by the Basalt SPO company.
ALT p10 contains package repositories and infrastructure to work with eight architectures:
- five primary ones (synchronous build, open repositories): 64-bit x86_64, aarch64 (ARMv8), ppc64le (Power8/9) and 32-bit i586 and armh (armv7hf);
- three closed ones (separate build, images and repositories available to equipment owners upon request): e2k (Elbrus-4C), e2kv4 (Elbrus-8C/1C+), e2kv5 (Elbrus-8SV).
For the 32-bit architecture mipsel, the p10 branch is not created, support in p9 is maintained within the declared deadlines. For e2k architectures, the branch for p10_e2k is scheduled for September 2021. In the middle of 2022, a branch for riscv64 architecture is planned. Build for all architectures is performed natively, without cross-compilation.
The Tenth platform provides users and developers with the opportunity to use Russian systems Baikal-M, Elbrus, Elvis and compatible ones, as well as a wide range of equipment from global manufacturers, including powerful servers POWER8/9 from IBM/Yadro, ARMv8 from Huawei, as well as various ARMv7 and ARMv8 single-board systems, including popular Raspberry Pi 2/3/4.
Particular attention is paid to free solutions that enable corporate users to migrate from proprietary infrastructure, ensure continuity of the unified directory services of enterprises and organizations, and support remote work with modern tools.
What's New
- Real-Time Kernels: two real-time Linux kernels have been built for the x86_64 architecture: Xenomai and Real Time Linux (PREEMPT_RT).
- OpenUDS VDI: a cross-platform connection broker for creating and managing virtual workspaces and applications. A VDI user selects a template via the browser and connects to their desktop on the terminal server or in a virtual machine in the cloud OpenNebula.
- Extension of the group policy set: gsettings parameters are supported for managing MATE and Xfce desktop environments.
- Active Directory Administration Center: admс is a graphical application for managing users, groups, and AD group policies, similar to RSAT on Windows.
- Extension of the deploy platform intended for deploying and configuring roles (for example, PostgreSQL or Moodle). The following roles have been added: apache, mariadb, mediawiki, moodle, nextcloud; for the mediawiki, moodle, and nextcloud roles, admin passwords can be changed without worrying about the internal implementation in each web application.
- Added alterator-multiseat — a module for configuring multiseat mode.
- Support for devices based on Baikal-M processors — tf307-mb boards on Baikal-M (BE-M1000) processors with revisions S-D and MB-A0 with SDK-M-5.2, as well as Lagrange LGB-01B (mini-ITX) boards.

Upgrade
Upgrading from versions 9.x of commercial products will be possible within the framework of the contract after the release of version 10.0 of the corresponding products. Before upgrading to the Tenth platform, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the description of the previously installed system. It is recommended to perform mass upgrades strictly after successful testing.
Starter kits and templates for various architectures and containerization/clouding systems (dockerhub, linuxcontainers) are available; new distribution products for various user categories are expected in the fall of 2021.
