The release of project DinoX 2.3.2 is now available. DinoX is a cross-platform fork of the open communication client Dino, which uses the XMPP protocol. Unlike applications like Psi, Gajim, Pidgin, and MirandaNG, DinoX comes with all relevant XEP specifications available out of the box, without needing to adjust settings or install external plugins. Additionally, DinoX offers a more familiar interface for average users, resembling most messaging apps from the last decade. The code is written in Vala (interface on GTK) and is distributed under the GPLv3 license.
Main Features:
- Multiplayer chats with support for private groups and public channels.
- A modern interface reminiscent of Telegram.
- Support for audio and video calls.
- Audio and video messages, recording and playback.
- Image previews.
- Support for end-to-end encryption via OTR/OMEMO and OpenPGP.
- Works in Windows and Linux.
- Resource consumption comparable to the Psi client written in C++ and Qt. About 100-150 MB of RAM for a client with three accounts and several chats.
- Ease of installation and setup.
- Use of avatars.
- Message archive management.
- Marking the last received and read messages in chats.
- Message broadcasting via subscription (Publish-Subscribe).
- Notification of message input status by another user.
- Delayed message delivery.
- Bookmarks for various services and resources stored on server.
- Notification of successful message delivery.
- Advanced message search tools and output filtering in chat history.
- Support for working with multiple accounts within a single interface, for example, to separate work and personal communication.
- Offline mode operation with actual sending of written messages and receiving queued messages from the server once a network connection is established.
It is worth noting that for the most comfortable communication under current conditions, it is recommended to set up your own server based on, for example, snikket. It will ensure not only privacy but also more stable call operations due to a dedicated TURN server.
