Founders of the Manjaro Project about the establishment of the commercial company Manjaro GmbH & Co, which will now oversee the development of the distribution and own the trademark. At the same time, the distribution will remain community-oriented and will develop with its participation — the project will continue to exist in its current form, retaining all its properties and processes that were in place before the company was established.
The company will enable the employment of key project developers, who will now work on the distribution not in their spare time, but on a full-time basis. Besides accelerating the development of the distribution, positive aspects of the company's formation also include more timely delivery of updates addressing vulnerabilities and increased effectiveness in responding to user needs.
Funding will be organized through commercial activities, the directions of which are still being explored. At the initial stage, the curator of Manjaro GmbH & Co is the company , which helps Manjaro developers establish business processes and achieve self-financing. Currently, two employees (Philip Müller and Bernhard Landauer) are employed by the new company. The main goals in the early stages will be to modernize the infrastructure and align the project with the requirements for a professional distribution.
Recall that the distribution , based on Arch Linux, targets beginner users and is notable for its simplified and user-friendly installation process, support for automatic hardware detection, and installation of necessary drivers. Users can choose from the graphical environments KDE, GNOME, and Xfce. The repository management uses its own toolset BoxIt, designed after Git. The repository follows a continuous update model (rolling), but new versions undergo an additional stabilization phase.
