The team responsible for maintaining the infrastructure for Linux kernel development has announced the launch of a new mailing service, lists.linux.dev. In addition to traditional mailing lists for Linux kernel developers, the server will allow the creation of lists for other projects with domains different from kernel.org.
All mailing lists serviced at vger.kernel.org will be migrated to the new server, preserving all addresses, subscribers, and identifiers. Due to the discontinuation of support for the majordomo mailing server, the new server system will utilize its own engine. Overall, everything will remain as before, only the message headers will change slightly, and the subscription and unsubscription procedures will be reworked. In particular, instead of a single address for all mailing lists, a separate address will be offered for each list for subscription/unsubscription.
The new service will address issues with message loss that have been observed recently at vger.kernel.org (for example, some messages were lost and did not make it to the web archives lore.kernel.org or lkml.org). The relevance of the web archive is planned to be improved by prioritizing the dispatch of new messages to lore.kernel.org. server Compatibility with the DMARC mechanism will also be ensured to improve the quality of message delivery to recipients.
