The developers of the ReactOS operating system, aimed at ensuring compatibility with Microsoft Windows programs and drivers, have announced the readiness of an initial set of patches for booting the project on multiprocessor systems with SMP mode enabled. Changes to support SMP have not yet been incorporated into the main ReactOS codebase and require further development, but the mere fact of the ability to boot with SMP mode enabled is noted as a significant achievement in the project's development (until now, one of the major limitations of ReactOS was the use of only one CPU core during operation).
The work on implementing SMP in ReactOS has positively impacted the overall stability of the system, as it allowed for the identification and resolution of many related bugs in the code associated with lock handling and process parallelization. Among the related changes, there is also mention of the ability to run the task manager from Windows XP to display CPU load.
