Wayland developers are working on a protocol extension that will allow applications to continue running during the crash and restart of the composite server (Window Compositor). This extension will address the longstanding issue of application termination when the windowing environment fails. The necessary changes, which keep the socket active during a restart, have already been prepared for the KWin window manager and are included in KDE Plasma 5.21. For Wayland, Mesa, SDL, Qt, and GTK, changes are being developed in separate branches.
