Docker has announced the reversal of its previous decision to discontinue the 'Docker Free Team' subscription service, which allows organizations managing open projects to host container images in the Docker Hub directory for free, to organize team work, and to use private repositories. Users of the 'Free Team' can continue working as before and do not need to worry about the previously scheduled deletion of their accounts.
Users who transitioned from 'Free Team' to paid plans between March 14 and March 24 will receive refunds for the funds spent and will be allowed free use of the chosen plan for the paid period (after which the user can return to the free 'Free Team' plan). Users who requested a transition to a simplified personal subscription or the Pro plan will remain on the Free Team subscription plan.
Previously, 'Docker Free Team' users were encouraged to switch to paid services, transfer their accounts to a simpler personal subscription type, or submit an application to participate in the Docker-Sponsored Open Source Program, which provides free access to Docker Hub for actively maintained open projects that meet the criteria of the Open Source Initiative, developed in public repositories and not generating commercial profit from their developments.
