The release of the EndeavourOS 25.11 "Mercury" distribution has been announced, continuing the development of the Antergos project and aimed at providing a hassle-free way to install Arch Linux with a chosen desktop environment. The desktop environment's components match the original delivery of the selected project. The size of the installation image is 3.4 GB (x86_64).
The distribution offers a simple installer for setting up a basic Arch Linux environment, based on Calamares tools. The installation options include KDE (default), Mate, LXQt, Cinnamon, Xfce, GNOME, Budgie, as well as tiling window managers i3, BSPWM, and Sway. Work is underway to add support for the Qtile and Openbox window managers, as well as the UKUI, LXDE, and Deepin desktop environments. One of the project's developers is developing a custom window manager, Worm.
In the new version:
- The Linux kernel has been updated to version 6.17.8. The new release of the Calamares installer 25.11.1.9 has been implemented. Components of the graphics stack have been updated: Mesa 25.2.7, xorg-server 21.1.20, Nvidia-utils 580.105.08.
- Support for systems with NVIDIA graphics cards has been improved. The live environment and installer now include the nvidia-open package with open kernel modules for NVIDIA GPUs. When booting the ISO image, the GPU is now automatically detected, and the corresponding driver variant (nvidia or nvidia-open) is installed.
- In the ISO image, the broadcom-wl driver for Broadcom wireless chips is disabled by default due to it causing issues with other network devices. When Broadcom-based Wi-Fi is present in the live session, a popup dialog is now shown offering to activate the broadcom-wl driver.
- In the KDE Plasma-based environment, the Maliit virtual keyboard has been replaced with the Qt Virtual Keyboard, and the Libappindicator-gtk3 library has been replaced with Libappindicator.
- In the GNOME-based environment, the Gnome-screenshot application for creating screenshots has been removed from the base distribution.
- In the LXDE-based environment, the Obconf configurator has been replaced with lxappearance-obconf-gtk3, and the Pacmanfm-gtk3 file manager has been renamed to pacmanfm. The use of gtk3 prefixes in package names has been discontinued.
- In the i3 window manager environment, the Xbacklight program has been replaced with brightnessctl.
