After six months of work on code stabilization, a beta version of the game engine port is available. for Linux (the latest for Windows February build 221). Builds are currently only prepared for Ubuntu 18.04 (). Within the OpenXRay project, the development of the X-Ray 1.6 engine, used in the game “S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat,” is taking place. The project was initiated after the source codes of the engine were leaked and aims to fix all original issues and introduce new features for both regular users and mod developers.
In this build, random crashes have been eliminated, rendering has been improved (closer to the original appearance), and the game can now be completed. Future plans include further rendering enhancements, support for resources from ClearSky (currently in a separate WIP branch), and support for the game “S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl.”
Known issues:
- Exiting the game may cause the process to hang;
- When transitioning between locations/reloading saved sessions, the graphics may become corrupted, and the game may crash (this can currently only be resolved by restarting the game with the loaded save session);
- Saved sessions and logs do not support UTF-8;
- The project does not compile with Clang.
For the game to work, resources from the original game are required and must be located in the directory “~/.local/share/GSC/SCOP/”.
For Steam, they can be obtained with the command:

If the resources are from GOG, all paths must be converted to lowercase (this is a feature of the engine). Before starting the game, the line in “~/.local/share/GSC/SCOP/_appdata_/user.ltx” should be corrected. Change “renderer renderer_r1” to “renderer renderer_gl,” and “vid_mode 1024×768” to the actual resolution; otherwise, it will be misplaced.
