OpenAPV 0.2 library with reference implementation of APV video codec is available

The OpenAPV library, a reference implementation of the APV (Advanced Professional Video) video codec designed for professional lossless video recording and processing, has been released. The library code is written in C and distributed under a BSD license. The project is being developed by the Academy Software Foundation, established by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (USA) and the organization Linux Foundation to promote the use of open source software in filmmaking.

The APV format provides high throughput and low complexity of intra-frame coding, and also guarantees no quality loss during re-coding. It supports 2K, 4K and 8K resolutions, HDR10/10+ standard for using extended dynamic range in video, frame tiling for parallel encoding/decoding, various color sampling formats, multi-view video, adding metadata (depth, transparency, preview data). To speed up the work, the OpenAPV library supports multi-threaded encoding and decoding, and also uses optimizations using extended NEON (ARM) and SEE/AVX (x86) instruction sets.

The new version adds support for APV families, which define typical codec configurations that meet certain size and bitrate requirements. The latest specification revisions have been taken into account. Support for profiles 422-12, 444-10, 444-12, 4444-10, 4444-12 and 400-10 has been added. Optimizations have been made to reduce encoding and decoding time. Protected methods for accessing the bitstream buffer and managing metadata have been implemented. The API has been expanded.
