The release of the integrated development environment Apache NetBeans 22 has been announced, providing support for programming languages such as Java SE, Java EE, PHP, C/C++, JavaScript, Rust, and Groovy. Pre-built installations will soon be available for Linux (snap, flatpak), Windows, and macOS.
Among the proposed changes:
- The user interface now displays information about keyboard shortcuts for common operations.
- Icons have been updated for macOS.
- A section for favorite directories has been added to the file chooser panel.
- A new Dashboard API has been introduced to replace the splash screen displayed at startup (Welcome page).
- The interface for viewing Git history and changes has been improved.
- Initial support for JDK 22 has been added for Java projects. Code templates have been included for the methods List.of(), Map.of(), and Set.of(), as well as for sealed classes and records. The code generator for record and enum types has been updated. The integrated Java compiler nb-javac (modified javac) has been upgraded to version 22. Code completion for static methods of Java classes is now available. Support for the Spring MVC framework 5.3.31 has been implemented, while support for outdated Spring versions 3 and 4 has been discontinued.
- Support for the Gradle and Maven build systems has been enhanced. The Gradle tooling and API support code have been updated to Gradle version 8.7 and Maven to version 9.10. The Gradle project creation wizard has been improved. The data indexing engine in Maven has been upgraded to Lucene 9.10.0. The experimental feature for Maven uploads has been removed, and issues related to conflicting dependencies have been resolved. The ability to create images for Helidon projects has been added. The class renaming function in Maven projects has been streamlined.
- When building with Ant tooling, support has been added for the property javac.release.
- In the PHP environment, support for features introduced in new PHP versions has been improved. Information display during debugging breakpoints has been enhanced. The code assistant now includes support for Auto Import operations. The checking of renames during refactoring has been improved.
- Support for Jakarta EE 11, GlassFish 7.0.14, and GlassFish 8.0.0-M4 has been added, along with server Wildfly 31 applications. Support for Apache Struts 1 has been discontinued. For the Micronaut framework, separate templates have been added for creating custom controllers and loading controllers from repositories. For Jakarta-based projects, code auto-completion for JSF and JSP pages has been included, as well as the activation of Servlet, Filter, and Listener generation. The JSF Facelets template creation master has added support for the JSF 4+ namespace.
- The environment for web projects has added support for the Chrome DevTools Protocol for debugging Node.js applications. The JavaScript editor now implements JAR-URL handling, improves code auto-completion with comments, and supports the meta-properties new.target and import.meta. JavaScript engine recovery has also been enhanced.
- libs.graaljs, libs.graalsdk, and libs.truffleapi have been updated to version 24.
- Support for Java code generation based on precompiled GoLang and ANTLR (ANother Tool for Language Recognition) grammars has been added. ANTLR toolkit versions have been updated.
- Expanded capabilities related to the use of servers LSP (Language Server Protocol).
- Working with Truffle breakpoints has been enabled.
