The first public build of the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge browser has been released online. This happened just a few days after the first leak. Currently, it is about an unofficial build numbered 75.0.111.0. This means that there is no change log available yet, nor is there localization for most languages. However, Softpedia is already offering the new version for download.
Overall, the first impressions are quite positive. The new version looks like a hybrid of Edge and Chrome, but it operates very quickly. It can also be launched not only on Windows 10 but also on Windows 7. Future versions for Linux and macOS are anticipated.
Of course, the Microsoft Edge version is still in early development, so major changes are to be expected. However, even this early build looks quite good. It should be noted that Microsoft promotes browser builds through the Canary, Beta, and Stable channels, syncing them with Chrome.
It is important to note that the new version comes in a self-extracting archive. If nothing happens upon launch for some reason, you need to unpack the downloaded exe file using 7zip or a similar archiver. Then extract the data from the resulting MSEDGE.7z archive and launch the msedge.exe file.
In general, the release version is expected to be available in the coming months. It is also possible that Microsoft will try to time the release or at least the official beta version with the April Windows 10 update.
It should also be noted that the browser has a reset function, which may come in handy if the program starts to behave incorrectly. When this function is activated, settings are reset to default parameters, extensions are removed, and the default search engine is restored, and so on.
