The dotenv-linter update has been released — a useful tool for checking and correcting errors in .env files (Docker environment variable files).
Many programmers strive to adhere to the twelve-factor manifesto when developing software. This approach helps avoid a large number of issues related to application deployment and ongoing maintenance. One principle of this manifesto states that all configurations should be stored in environment variables. This allows them to be changed for different environments (Staging, QA, Production) without modifying the code. .env files are widely used to store variables and their values.
dotenv-linter finds and corrects the most common issues in such files: name duplication, incorrect separator, variables without values, extra spaces, and more. A backup copy is created for each file to allow changes to be reverted.
The tool is written in Rust; it is very fast and versatile — it can be integrated into any project in any programming language.
Dotenv-linter is part of 'Awesome Rust Mentors' and helps beginner contributors take their first steps in open-source software development.
