Telegram founder Pavel Durov commented on the blockage of Telegram in Russia, reported, that the messenger will continue to adapt, making its traffic more difficult to detect and block.
According to Durov, 65 million Russians use the messenger daily via VPN, with more than 50 million sending messages each day. Ahead of the Telegram blockage, proposed Russians are encouraged to subscribe to Premium for two years in advance at a significant discount, as there may not be a technical possibility to pay for it later.
Last August, Roskomnadzor announced implemented partial restrictions on voice and video in the Telegram and WhatsApp messengers "to combat criminals," as well as to counter extremist and terrorist activities.
Despite claims from the Telegram administration about actively blocking illegal publications and the channels where they are posted — for example, on March 17 alone, its moderators blocked 114.3 thousand channels and groups, with over 10 million blocks since the beginning of the year — Roskomnadzor was announced, stated that Telegram continues to not comply with Russian legislation.
Previously, Dmitry Peskov mentioned that the main condition for the messenger's continued operation in Russia is compliance with Russian law. Meanwhile, FSB head Alexander Bortnikov noted that negotiations with Pavel Durov are currently not ongoing, and previous attempts at dialogue have led to nothing.
