The latest release of the open-source chemical process simulator has come out DWSIM. The closest proprietary alternatives are HYSYS and Aspen Plus packages.
The main innovation is the switch from Mono to .NET 8 for running the Linux version.
DWSIM can operate on Linux, Windows, macOS, and there are apps for Android and Apple with limited functionality.
DWSIM can model stationary equilibrium processes of vapor-liquid, vapor-liquid-liquid, solid-liquid, and aqueous electrolyte using the following thermodynamic models:
- Thermodynamic models: CoolProp, Peng-Robinson equation of state, Peng-Robinson-Stryjek-Vera (PRSV2), Soave-Redlich-Kwong, Lee-Kesler, Lee-Kesler-Plöcker, UNIFAC(-LL), Modified UNIFAC (Dortmund), Modified UNIFAC (NIST), UNIQUAC, NRTL, Chao-Seader, Grayson-Streed, extended UNIQUAC, Raoult's law, IAPWS-IF97 steam tables, IAPWS-08 for seawater, oil.
- Blocks: mixer, splitter, separator, pump, compressor, expander, heater, cooler, valve, pipe segment, short column, heat exchanger, reactors (conversion, displacement, stirred reactor, equilibrium, and Gibbs reactor), distillation column, simple absorbers, absorbers with a reverse cooler, component separator, solid particle separator, continuous filter, and diaphragm.
