The results of the annual Debian Project Leader elections have been announced. 455 developers participated in the voting, accounting for 44% of all eligible voters (last year's turnout was 33%, and the year before that it was 37%). This year, two candidates ran for the leader position. Jonathan Carter emerged victorious, having been re-elected for a second term.
Since 2016, Jonathan has been maintaining over 60 packages in Debian, contributing to quality improvements for Live images in the debian-live team, and is one of the developers of AIMS Desktop, a Debian build used in several South African scientific and educational institutions.
The second candidate for the leader position was Sruthi Chandran from India, who advocates for diversity within the community, is a member of the Outreach Team, and oversees around 200 packages related to Ruby, JavaScript, GoLang, and fonts, including maintaining the gitlab, gitaly, and rails packages.
