Developer and Xbox fan using the alias Voxel9 recently a video in which he demonstrated the launch of the XQEMU emulator (which emulates the original Xbox console) on the Nintendo Switch. Voxel9 also showcased that the system can run some games, including Halo: Combat Evolved.
And while there are currently issues with low frame rates, the emulation works. The entire process is implemented using XQEMU. The developer also showed Jet Set Radio Future running (a 2002 game that is not yet part of the backward compatibility program on Xbox One). However, Jet Set Radio Future noticeably lags: the developer even had to increase the frame rate fourfold to demonstrate how it would work in normal mode.
It is currently difficult to say how this can be replicated on other Nintendo Switch units, as the developer did not specify technical details or provide instructions. It is known only that the OS was originally installed on the Switch , and after that, the emulator was launched on it, as seen in the video below. A PS4 gamepad was used for control, rather than the Joy-Con, since the original controller was not detected by the system.
It is worth noting that RetroArch with support for NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, and other old console emulators has already been launched on the portable console, and Android. And although these systems often did not work very well, the fact that this is even possible is interesting.
