The Fedora project has announced the 'Test Week' event, which will take place from August 31 to September 7, 2020.
During the 'Test Week', everyone is invited to test the upcoming release of Fedora 33 and submit results to the distribution developers.
To participate in the testing, you need to install the system and perform several standard operations. Then, you will need to report your results via a special form.
According to wiki of the event. Testing can be conducted in a virtual machine. Builds for x86 and aarch64 architectures are available for testing.
The main focus of the upcoming week is on Btrfs. In Fedora 33, this file system will be offered by the installer as the default. In previous versions of Fedora, the ext4 file system was provided by default.
Among the features of Btrfs compared to ext4, the following can be noted:
Copy-on-write. In the case of the ext4 file system, new data is written over the old ones. Btrfs allows new data to be written while keeping the old data intact. This provides the ability to recover the system or data in the event of a failure.
Snapshots. This technology allows creating a 'snapshot' of the file system for later rollback of changes.
Subvolumes. The Btrfs file system can be split into what's called subvolumes.
Support for compression, which allows not only to compress files but also to reduce the number of disk accesses.
