A corrective release of Firefox 154.0.1 is available, featuring six fixes:
- Issues causing slow access to saved passwords and unnecessary prompts for entering the master password to unlock the password store have been resolved.
- An error that prevented autofill for addresses on certain websites has been fixed.
- A problem that caused HTTP connection installations with devices on the local network to fail without prior confirmation prompts has been addressed.
- A crash that occurred when opening intranet sites linking to files in local network storage has been eliminated.
- Windows-specific issues leading to the re-adding of shortcuts in the start menu and incorrect truncation of tab titles when setting the MS UI Gothic font have been resolved.
Additionally, Mozilla developers decided to enable support for JPEG-XL image decoding by default in Firefox 157. The release of Firefox 157 is scheduled for September 29. Similar to Chrome, the JPEG-XL implementation added to Firefox is based on the jxl-rs library written in Rust. JPEG XL achieves up to a 60% reduction in file size compared to JPEG images of identical quality. Among its extended features are: HDR, animation, transparency, progressive loading mode, smooth quality degradation with reduced bitrate, lossless JPEG compression, support for up to 4099 channels, and a large range of color depths.
