Mozilla announced the addition of a built-in ad blocker to Firefox for iOS. This new feature allows users to block ads and tracking code before they load. Unlike the adblock-rust component integrated into the desktop version of Firefox, Firefox for iOS utilizes Content Blocker technology provided by Apple's WebKit engine. To enable the ad blocker, a new setting has been added under "Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker," which is disabled by default.
EasyList is used as an ad filtering list, but the ad blocker uses a soft mode—only external ads are blocked. Embedded ads directly displayed by the website and ads in search results are not blocked. The blocker also does not affect sponsored content displayed on the new tab page.
