Mozilla has announced the introduction of a built-in ad blocker in Firefox for iOS. This new feature allows users to block ads and tracking code before they are loaded. Unlike the adblock-rust component integrated into the desktop version of Firefox, the iOS version utilizes the Content Blocker technology provided by Apple WebKit. To enable the ad blocker, a setting has been added under ‘Settings > Browsing > Ad Blocker,’ which is disabled by default.
The ad filtering list uses EasyList, but the ad blocker operates in a soft blocking mode, only blocking external ads. Built-in ads directly displayed by the website and ads in search results are not blocked. The blocker also does not affect sponsored content shown on the new tab page.
