PCWorld reports that most major American online retailers, including Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, and others, do not have the new processors in stock. Only Micro Center is accepting orders but does not specify the availability of the Ryzen 9 3900X or the delivery times. It is only easy to purchase the new product on eBay, though it costs $740. That's nearly 50% more than the recommended price, which is set at $499 for the Ryzen 9 3900X.
This situation is not only affecting the flagship model. The slightly lower-tier eight-core Ryzen 7 3800X is also unavailable at many major American retailers. Again, only Micro Center reports availability, but only in physical stores. On eBay, the price of the Ryzen 7 3800X has skyrocketed from the recommended $399 to a more substantial $479.
AMD itself comments on the situation as follows: "We are providing significant volumes of products to our retail and online partners. We are pleased to see the extremely positive response to the Ryzen 3000 series desktop processors and the Radeon RX 5700 series graphics cards. AMD is working quickly to replenish inventory for sellers worldwide after significant demand."
We hope that AMD will soon overcome these challenges so that everyone interested can purchase any Ryzen 3000 series processors. It is worth noting that the shortage only affects the higher-end AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors, while it is still easy to buy more affordable and less powerful AMD processors.
