The STF (Sovereign Tech Fund) has introduced new open projects that are set to receive funding. The organization was established in Germany to stimulate the development of open digital infrastructure and open-source ecosystems. The fund is created with resources provided by the German Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, and it is supervised by the Federal Agency for Breakthrough Innovations (SPRIND). It is noted that investment in open source software fosters innovation in Germany and Europe, as well as enhances competitiveness, productivity, and the ability to promote innovation in small and medium enterprises.

Since 2022, the STF has funded a total of 87 open projects, including FreeBSD, GNOME, Samba, Rust, Pipewire, Eclipse, OpenStreetMap, Arch Linux, and FFmpeg. The largest amounts were allocated to the GNOME projects (β¬1 million), Rust (β¬826,000), and Samba (β¬688,000).
