The developers of the Gentoo distribution have announced an expansion of the range of ready-made stage files available for download. The publication of stage archives based on the Musl C library and builds for the ppc64 platform, optimized for POWER9 processors, has begun. For all supported platforms, builds with the system manager systemd have been added, in addition to the previously available OpenRC-based builds. Through the standard download page for the amd64 platform, the delivery of Hardened stage files with SELinux support and the musl library has started.
These changes have been made possible by the implementation of new build hosts. Builds for the amd64, x86, arm (via QEMU), and riscv (via QEMU) architectures are now being generated on server an 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 3700X CPU with 64 GB of RAM. Builds for the ppc, ppc64, and ppc64le / power9le architectures are provided on server a 16-core POWER9 CPU with 32 GB of RAM. An 80-core Ampere Altra CPU with 256 GB of RAM has been allocated for arm64 builds.
