The official release of GNU Coreutils 9.10 has taken place – a de facto standard set of essential utilities in Linux systems and some other platforms.
The key changes include:
- The process of generating man pages has been modified. Command line options described in the man page can now be made into hyperlinks.
- The timeout command now intercepts all signals that lead to process termination, ensuring that the child command is completed before the timeout command itself finishes.
- The paste(1) command has been fixed to work correctly with multibyte characters.
- An infinite loop has been fixed in cp, install, and mv when copying sparse files using SEEK_HOLE.
- The stat and tail commands now recognize the guest-memfd filesystem type.
- The tail command now supports the --debug option for debugging.
- The cksum, du, and wc commands now output a request to terminate when receiving a write error message, significantly saving time when processing a large number of input files.
- The du command can now process directories with 10,000 or more entries 9 times faster when using the Lustre filesystem.
