Godot 4.3 with Wayland support

The release of the game engine Godot 4.3 has taken place – a constructor for creating 2D and 3D games.

The main innovation in Godot 4.3 is the initial support for Wayland. This enables games created in Godot to run natively on Wayland desktops without using the XWayland layer. Native support for Wayland in Godot is currently enabled with the flag —display-driver wayland.

Other innovations:

  • An XR (mixed reality) simulator for Quest 3 headsets has been added.

  • Support for cameras from Quest 3 headsets has been introduced.

  • Native support for DirectX 12 has been ensured thanks to the open DXIL shader..

  • A Parallax2D effect has been added.

  • Premultiplied alpha has been added – a new blending mode for 3D materials. This allows for more visually appealing lights and fireworks, as a single particle can now have both additive blending properties (for flames) and standard blending properties (for smoke).

  • Depth-based fog has been added.

  • A number of other innovations and improvements have been implemented.
