In recent years, all innovations have been focused around the virtual assistant, prompting the Google development team to completely replace the ‘Voice Search’ feature on Android.
Until recently, users could interact with ‘Voice Search’ through the Google app, a special search widget, or an app shortcut. By tapping the microphone icon, users could perform a search for the information they were interested in. Many users associate the old voice search with the phrase ‘OK Google’.
Currently, the voice search icon has been replaced with an icon depicting the letter ‘G’. While the user sees the old interface, the queries are processed by the virtual assistant. The message indicates that this innovation has not yet gained widespread adoption.
Despite the old voice search supporting a wide range of languages and having many fans around the globe, it will eventually be replaced by Google Assistant. There’s little doubt that Google will integrate this innovation into all available software solutions used across various devices. It is likely that this new feature is no longer in testing and is starting to be rolled out widely. Google does not want to mislead users by offering two largely similar features related to voice search.
