Google Corporation has published a library under an open license differential privacy on the company's GitHub page. The code is distributed under the Apache License 2.0.
Developers will be able to use this library to build data collection systems without collecting information that can identify individuals.
"Regardless of whether you are a city planning specialist, a small business owner, or a software developer, extracting valuable information can help improve services and provide answers to important questions. However, without reliable privacy protection, you risk losing the trust of your citizens, clients, and users. Differentially private data analysis is a fundamental approach that allows organizations to extract useful data while ensuring that the results do not allow for the re-identification of any individual's personal information," writes Miguel Guevara, Product Manager in the Privacy and Data Protection department.
The company also notes that the library includes an additional testing library (to achieve proper differential privacy), as well as a PostgreSQL extension and a number of recipes to help developers get started.
