Astra Linux for desktop systems is a build of the Debian distribution. It is unclear whether the smartphone version will be based on Debian with an adapted Fly shell for small touchscreen displays or if a recompiled version of Android, Tizen, or will be offered under the Astra Linux brand. The Fly shell is a proprietary development built on the Qt framework. Among the available mobile device shells for Debian, there may also be adaptations of the projects developed for the and , for the Librem 5 smartphone.

The battery life is stated to be 10–12 hours at temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C and four to five hours at temperatures up to -30°C. It has an IP67/IP68 protection class, capable of withstanding a drop from a height of 1.5 meters onto concrete.
