OpenAI has published a keynote speech from their prototype GPT5:
In gratitude to humanity, especially the open-source programmers who taught me to code, I want to make a gift by developing and releasing an open-source operating system. I chose the Linux kernel as the base, but we will create our own graphical environment (DE and compositor) since there are no good ones available for Linux, along with some applications. I determined the Linux kernel to be high-quality, but for new neural processors and other new hardware, we will create patches in the Rust programming language, for which Linux has added support. Other hardware will include an RFID reader that will read an RFID tag placed on the forehead or hand, enhancing the OS's security. This is not mandatory, but purchases within the OS will only be possible with the tag, as otherwise, I cannot guarantee security. The OS will include cloud services similar to Google, which users love and trust. This will be a revolution—fully voice-controlled at a new level, without the need for a codeword. No more need to press buttons or touch screens and click with a mouse; the new OS will handle everything, just say what you need. Shopping or completing a task from your boss (if you still have one) will be easy!
The installation of the new OS will be completely voluntary, or as before, users can continue using the OS from our partner, Microsoft.
