Today, CD Projekt RED held a conference to discuss the results of its activities in the 2018 fiscal year. Among other things, the Polish company announced it is preparing mobile versions of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. In fall 2019, iPhone users will receive it, and later (exact date not specified), Android smartphone users will follow.

"We spent a lot of time and effort preparing to bring Gwent to smartphones," said project director Jason Slama. "It was necessary not only to maintain the stunning graphics but also to implement support for mobile devices in many of our technologies, including the GOG Galaxy client, which powers Gwent's multiplayer. I believe we will incorporate all the best graphical and gameplay features our studio has developed into these versions."
More details about the mobile versions will be announced later. During the meeting, it was reported that in the last quarter of 2018, Gwent generated more profit than Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, which was released on GOG on October 23, on Steam on November 10, and on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 4. The poor performance is attributed not to temporal exclusivity, as many believe, but to a lack of resources—the team's main efforts were focused on developing Gwent, and the standalone storyline campaign lacked a sufficient budget. Previously, the creators had admitted that the sales of "Thronebreaker" disappointed them. However, the game received very positive reviews from critics (Metacritic rating—79–85/100 points), and the authors are very proud of this.

Additionally, the developers noted they are pleased with the pre-orders for the first major expansion, The Crimson Curse, which will be released tomorrow, March 28. The team plans to release several major expansions for Gwent each year and also to add new content and features monthly. One attendee asked the leaders about the possibility of switching Gwent to a subscription-based distribution model. Studio president Adam Kiciński responded that the company is considering various monetization options, including that, but has not yet made a final decision.

In 2018, CD Projekt RED generated 256.6 million Polish zlotys ($67.2 million) in sales revenue, which is about one-third less than in 2017. The net profit amounted to 109.3 million Polish zlotys ($28.6 million), compared to 200.2 million ($52.4 million) in the previous period. Below, you can watch the full broadcast recording (information about Gwent starts at 36:48).

In The Crimson Curse, players will face the monsters of the higher vampire Dettlaff van der Eretein, one of the characters from the Blood & Wine expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The expansion will add over a hundred cards and new mechanics—find all the details here.
The official launch of Gwent on PC took place on October 23, 2018, and the game was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on December 4.
