HAL — IDE for Reverse Engineering Digital Electronic Circuits

Published project release HAL 2.0 (Hardware Analyzer), developing an integrated environment for analyzing connection lists (netlist) of digital electronic circuits. The system is being developed by several German universities, written in C++, Qt, and Python, and is provided is licensed under the MIT License.

HAL allows viewing and analyzing the schematics in the GUI and manipulating them using Python scripts. The scripts can utilize the provided 'standard library' of functions that implement graph theory operations, useful for reverse engineering digital electronic circuits (with these functions, one can heuristically detect certain design patterns and remove simple obfuscations with just a few lines of script). The library also includes classes for project management in the IDE, which can be used when developing plugins for analyzing and inspecting connections. Parsers for hardware description languages VHDL and Verilog are provided.
