In addition to sleek foldable smartphones and the company Honor today unveiled two new tablets in China — the MagicPad 2 with a 12.3-inch display and the sub-flagship Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor, as well as the 12.1-inch Honor Pad 9 Pro with a powerful mid-range Dimensity 8100 chip.
Unlike last year's with an LCD display, the new MagicPad 2 features a 10-bit OLED panel with a 144 Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 3000 × 1920 pixels, and a peak brightness of 1600 nits. The screen claims PWM brightness adjustment at a frequency of 4320 Hz, along with TUV Rheinland certification confirming eye protection through reduced flicker and blue light intensity.
The thickness of the MagicPad 2 tablet is only 5.8 mm. It is smaller than last year's model, but Honor managed to maintain a 10,050 mAh battery and support for 66 W fast charging in the new device. The new model also retains a 13 MP main camera and a 9 MP front camera.
The MagicPad 2 runs on Android 14 with the proprietary MagicOS 8.0 overlay. The platform offers support for a variety of AI functions powered by the Qualcomm chipset. The new model has enhanced multitasking capabilities. The tablet can recognize handwritten formulas, handwritten text, geometric shapes, and objects on the screen.
For the MagicPad 2, support for Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, and input via the Magic Pen 3 stylus is claimed. The tablet is equipped with eight speakers certified by IMAX Enhanced.
The tablet is available in white, black, and blue colors. The MagicPad 2 is offered in configurations with 8, 12, or 16 GB of RAM, as well as with 256, 512 GB, or 1 TB of flash memory. Prices start at 2899 yuan ($400/€367) for the base configuration (8/256 GB) and reach 4199 yuan ($580/€530) for the higher version (16/1024 GB). The tablet is available for pre-order on the official Honor China website. Retail sales of the device will begin on July 19.
The Pad 9 Pro tablet, in turn, represents a more advanced version of the model The device features a 12.1-inch display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. It is worth noting that Honor offers the Pad 9 Pro with two display options. One is a standard IPS panel, while the other has a special coating that reduces screen flicker and blue light emission.
Compared to its predecessor, the new Pad 9 Pro has thinner bezels. Additionally, the battery capacity has increased by almost 20%, now reaching 10,050 mAh (compared to the 8,300 mAh on the Pad 9).
The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8100 processor (four Cortex-A78 cores at 2.85 GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at 2.0 GHz). The tablet offers either 8 or 12 GB of RAM, as well as 256 GB of internal storage. It runs on Android 14 with the proprietary MagicOS 8.0 skin. The Pad 9 Pro supports the new Honor Magic Pen 3 stylus, and the manufacturer will also offer a proprietary keyboard. The new model features a 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera.
The Honor Pad 9 Pro is already available for purchase. The device is offered in gray and blue colors, starting at 2,199 yuan ($300/€280). The version with the special display is priced 200 yuan ($27/€25) higher.
