Participants of the Fosshost project, which provides virtual servers for free projects at no charge, have announced the inability to continue providing services and are expecting the company's servers to be shut down soon. The issues at Fosshost are caused by the fact that Thomas Markey, the company's director, has not been in contact for over six months, and without him, it is not possible to resolve financial and technical matters.
Access to the equipment in the current data center was available only to Thomas, as well as access to the accounts that could be used to pay for the hosting of servers in the data center. For example, one of the servers servers has been down for about a month as there is no way to reboot it. Given the situation, the remaining volunteers in the project cannot guarantee the continued operation of the infrastructure and are expecting the servers to be shut down soon due to the inability to pay for their hosting.
Users are advised to create backups immediately and move their environments as soon as possible to other platforms that provide free virtual servers for open projects, such as Radix. Services from Fosshost were used by such open projects as GNOME, KDE, GNU Guix, Xiph.Org, Rocky Linux, Debian, OpenIndiana, Armbian, BlackArch, Qubes, FreeCAD, IP Fire, ActivityPub (W3), Manjaro, Whonix, QEMU, Xfce, Xubuntu, Ubuntu DDE, and Ubuntu Unity.
