On Tuesday, July 9, IBM announced the closing of the deal to acquire Red Hat for $34 billion.
The merger between IBM and Red Hat was announced at the end of October 2018 and has now been officially completed.
In the press release regarding the deal's closure, it is stated that IBM and Red Hat will offer a "next-generation hybrid multicloud platform" which is "based on open-source technologies such as Linux and Kubernetes."
IBM noted that Red Hat will continue to "build and expand its partnerships, including with major cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, and Alibaba."
