The new URI is proposed by developers of the open electronic payment system and can be used to invoke programs for making payments similarly to how the 'mailto' URI is used to launch email clients. The 'payto:' URI supports specifying in the link the type of payment system, the recipient's payment details, the amount transferred, and additional notes. For instance, 'payto://iban/DE75512106001345126199?amount=EUR:200.0&message=hello'. The 'payto:' URI allows referencing account details ('payto://iban/DE75512108001245126199'), bank identifiers ('payto://bic/SOGEDEFFXXX'), bitcoin addresses ('payto://bitcoin/12A1MyfXbW65678ZEqofac5jCQQjwEPBu'), and other identifiers.
