GitHub has announced the "GitHub Secure Open Source Fund" initiative, aimed at funding efforts to enhance the security of open-source projects. In the first phase, 125 projects are set to be selected and a total of $1.25 million will be invested in them. Applications for funding will be accepted from maintainers until January 7.
Eligible to participate are maintainers of projects with open licenses, residing in regions where the GitHub Sponsors program operates. In addition to the $10,000 funding, approved participants will undergo a three-week training in computer security, receive recommendations and consultations from the GitHub Security Lab team, and gain free access to related security services from GitHub (Copilot, Copilot Autofix, Secret scanning).
