The Linux Foundation has introduced a joint project called RISE (RISC-V Software Ecosystem), aimed at accelerating the development of open-source software for systems based on the RISC-V architecture, used across various fields including mobile technologies, consumer electronics, data centers, and automotive information systems. The project's founders include companies such as Red Hat, Google, Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Samsung, SiFive, Andes, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek, Rivos, T-Head, and Ventana, which have expressed their willingness to finance the work or provide engineering resources.
Among the open projects that participants plan to focus on to enhance RISC-V support are:
- Toolchains and compilers: LLVM and GCC.
- Libraries: Glibc, OpenSSL, OpenBLAS, LAPACK, OneDAL, Jemalloc.
- The Linux kernel.
- The Android platform.
- Languages and runtime: Python, OpenJDK/Java, JavaScript engine V8.
- Distributions: Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL, Fedora, and Alpine.
- Debuggers and profiling systems: DynamoRIO and Valgrind.
- Emulators and simulators: QEMU and SPIKE.
- System components: UEFI, ACP.
