In anticipation of the famous London Marathon, held annually since 1981, the publication Which? released a list of fitness trackers that are the least accurate in measuring distance. The leader of the anti-rating was the Garmin Vivosmart 4, with an error rate of 41.5%.

The Garmin Vivosmart 4 was found to significantly underestimate the runner's distance. While the runner actually covered 37 miles, the device reported only 26.2 miles. The Samsung Gear S2 performed slightly better, with a 38% underestimation of the actual distance. Overall, most of the least accurate fitness trackers undervalued the results of the marathon runners testing them, with the exceptions being the Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) and Huawei Watch 2 Sport, which overestimated the actual distance by 13% and 28%, respectively.
At the same time, experts from Which? noted that the accuracy of fitness trackers does not depend on the manufacturer. The publication provided several striking examples, demonstrating that products from the same brand can show varying levels of accuracy. For instance, the Garmin model Vivoactive 3, which topped the anti-rating, provided a 100% accurate result. Apple, which also appeared on the list of the least accurate fitness trackers, once released the Watch Series 1, which overestimated the distance covered by only 1%.
