The team responsible for account management in the Debian project has downgraded Norbert Preining's status due to inappropriate behavior on the closed mailing list debian-private. In response, Norbert has decided to cease his involvement in the Debian development and join the Arch Linux community. Norbert has been involved in Debian development since 2005, maintaining around 150 packages, primarily related to KDE and LaTex.
It appears that the reason for the downgrade was a conflict with Martina Ferrari, who maintains 37 packages, including the net-tools package and components of the Prometheus monitoring system. Norbert's way of communicating, which did not restrain his expressions, was perceived by Martina as sexism and a violation of the community's code of conduct. Past disagreements with Lars Wirzenius, one of the early maintainers of Debian GNU/Linux, regarding Norbert's disagreement with the imposition of political correctness and criticism of Sarah Sharp's actions may have also influenced this decision.
Norbert believes that the atmosphere in the project has become toxic, and the actions taken against him are a reaction to expressing his opinion and calling things by their true names, without adhering to the common line of political correctness. Norbert also pointed out the double standards in the community – on one hand, he is accused of bullying other project participants, while on the other hand, a harassment campaign against him is unleashed, taking advantage of a privileged position in management teams and not adhering to the community's own standards.
