Google has just launched reading mode in the Chrome browser for PC and mobile devices. However, this feature is far from new. It is present in the original Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Safari, and now it also exists on Edge based on Chromium.
Microsoft wants its new browser to include this feature from the start, and has already added it to Microsoft Edge Canary. This will simplify reading long texts, as the mode will trim unnecessary graphical elements from websites, ads, and more.
By default, this mode is turned off, but it can be easily activated. To do this, follow these steps:
- Type in the address bar edge://flags.
- Find the Microsoft Edge Reading View flag.
- Change its mode from Default to Enabled.
- Restart the browser.
After that, a book icon will appear in the address bar, clicking on which will switch the browser to reading mode for that site. It's important to note that the mode has limitations. On the homepage of 3dnews.ru, the icon is not present, but if you open a publication, it appears. Apparently, the system tracks the minimum amount of text required to activate the mode.
It goes without saying that it's important to remember that this feature is still part of the beta testing of Microsoft Edge, so it may take some time before it transitions to the beta version and stable builds. This is expected to happen by the end of this year, although the company has not yet announced a specific date.
