Change in the appearance of KDE Plasma and the login screen
Our Xfce and GNOME have a new Kali Linux-style appearance, and now it's time to return to our roots (backtrack-linux) and pay some attention to KDE Plasma: it now features new themes, both light and dark.
We have redesigned the login screen as well. It also has a light and dark theme, and the input fields have been aligned.
PowerShell by default
Some time ago, we added PowerShell to the repository; now we have included PowerShell right in one of our main metapackages — kali-linux-large. However, it is still missing from the metapackage that comes by default (kali-linux-default).
Improvements in Kali ARM
Following the x86 images, in our ARM images we have dropped login:root pass:toor. Instead, the new login is kali with the password kali.
The requirements for the SD card are now 16 GB and above.
We no longer install locales-all, so we recommend running the command sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales, and then logging out and back in.
Redesigned installer
Users often noted all DE for installation in the installer and were surprised when the installation took too long. Many packages were being downloaded from the network, which further slowed down the process.
What is the solution?
- We have removed kali-linux-everything as an option in the installer.
- We have added all packages from kali-linux-large to the installer.
New packages and icons

Since many tools still require python2, we have restored it in the repository. Developers, please begin porting your tools to Python 3.
