This week, Grand Theft Auto Online received , adding a new feature — the Diamond casino hotel. However, it became clear after its release that not all users can access it: it is unavailable in more than fifty countries due to local gambling laws.

One user reported that when trying to purchase chips for gambling, he received a message stating that his account did not have permission to carry out the relevant transactions. Customer support explained that this is due to regional restrictions related to gambling. The same is mentioned on the customer support page of the official Rockstar Games website. In just a few days, numerous complaints accumulated, and gamers decided to compile a list of countries where the new update is unavailable. In addition to North Korea, China, Israel, Iran, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries with strict censorship regarding video games, it included Poland, Belarus, the Czech Republic, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal, Argentina, and Venezuela. For some users, all mini-games are blocked, while for others, only certain ones.
Residents of some countries were surprised that local laws prevent them from enjoying the virtual casino, yet allow loot boxes (which, according to , most gamers consider a form of gambling). To bypass the restrictions, players use VPNs, but this is not recommended: it may be regarded as a violation of Rockstar's user agreement, leading to a ban. One participant in the discussion lamented that the service he uses struggles with games, leaving him only to 'watch others enjoy the update' he had been anticipating.

Meanwhile, the Twitter user known as Unknown how much virtual money it will take to purchase all the new content of the update. The total amount is quite substantial: $63,548,081 or about $800 in real currency. The most expensive new items are vehicles ($28 million) and clothing ($14.4 million), while only $8.9 million was spent on the casino. Microtransactions in GTA Online remain a significant source of revenue for Rockstar, but let's not rush to conclusions about greed. First, it's unlikely anyone would buy everything offered in the update; secondly, this includes both women's and men's clothing, as well as all styles for the casino; and thirdly, spending real money is not necessary — the currency can be earned in the game itself.
Diamond opened on July 23. In the new entertainment center, gamers can play roulette, blackjack, three-card poker, slot machines, and bet on horse racing. The wheel of fortune allows players to win money, chips, clothing items, and expensive vehicles. Penthouse buyers receive VIP status, granting access to special areas, high-stakes tables, and services such as calling a helicopter or limousine, as well as the opportunity to complete new cooperative missions. The elite residence can be customized to their liking.
